X-WR-CALNAME:The Big Draw at Bartons 2011
X-WR-CALDESC:Little Monsters meet in Beestonwww.carnivalofmonsters.co.uk\nTime: 22nd Oct 1pm – 4pm\nPlace: Bartons, High Rd, Chilwell\nbig draw nottinghamOn the 22nd Oct for the Big Draw we are welcoming children from the all over the East Midlands to help us draw monsters of every shape and size.\nBartons, once famous transport operators, retain a large collection of historic vehicles. We'll be rolling out some huge sheets of paper and then outlining window shapes onto the paper. The children will draw monsters in each of the window shapes. When each window is filled with monsters we will cut them out and place them in the windows of the actual buses. We'll be letting some lucky artists stick them on the bus windows themselves!\nThe finished Monster buses should present a fantastic photo opportunity…... the Monsters are taking over the buses!\nThere will also be the opportunity for children to join in with 2 'make and take' tables, creating monsters from recycled materials.\nThe Big DrawOctober is Big Draw month. This annual initiative, the Campaign's flagship programme, aims to bring communities together in creative ways. It is the largest drawing festival in the world. More than 1000 venues take part throughout October from national galleries, museums and heritage sites to nursery schools and village halls. Big Draw activities show how drawing can be used to connect visitors with our cultural heritage, natural or built environment – and each other. Schools often invite the wider community to share the pleasures of learning through drawing. Last year 22 countries joined the UK in organising events.\nThe Campaign for DrawingThe Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing! Why? Drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate – regardless of age and ability. The Campaign took its initial inspiration from the visionary Victorian artist and writer, John Ruskin. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ruskin. In a strange quirk of fate, Bartons bought three cottages in Chilwell named after the every same Ruskin, situated at the top of Bridge Avenue, built around 1906; they have a stone with the name engraved on them, with beside them, 'Carlyle ' cottages (Thomas Carlyle was John Ruskin's mentor). Weird but wonderful coincidence !\nThe Monster Big Draw @ Bartons - 22nd of October 1pm - 4pm\nThe Carnival of Monsters is host to our Big Draw 2011 event. Our Big Draw event aims to bring communities together in fun, creative ways. We'll be getting kids involved in drawing and painting on a BIG scale. Just make sure you wear clothes you don't mind getting paint on!\nDuring the afternoon we'll have monstrous making, painting and drawing! There'll be 'make and take tables', plenty of paint, brushes, pens and paper.\nThe theme of the event is 'MONSTERS'!! so put your thinking caps on and show us the Largest, Smallest, Scariest, Cuddliest and Wildest Monsters your imagination can come up with!\nA 'Big Thankyou' to all our sponsors Acorn Windows, Buttonwood Marketing, RMB Projects, Plan 4 Print and SOLOS Residential.
