This beautifully crafted piece captures brilliantly Barton's finest holiday of the period - The Grand Italian Tour - an exceptional Road/Air Cruise. It is filmed in full colour Kodak Kodachrome
Bartons have this year unbelievably managed to pair the rediscovery of the film with the rediscovery and return to Chilwell this week of one of our contemporary AEC Reliances/Plaxton Venturer used in period.
From a batch of ten vehicles bought new in 1956, URR 865 is a sister vehicle believed identical in every respect to URR 870 which features in the film (and is believed to have been broken up long ago). URR 865 in turn is completely unrestored, but even now still shows evidence of its first ownership. It is a fine example of 'preservation' as opposed to 'restoration' and is a real showstopper.
We intend to show Bill Freeman's 'Barton - Grand Italian Tour' at 11.00am, 12.00p.m, 1.00pm, 2.00 p.m and 3.00p.m only on the Saturday of this year's Heritage Open Day in Docking Shop 2. I can't recommend sparing the time to see it highly enough.
